Klamath River:

The Klamath Act (1986), Public Law 99-552, established a 20 year restoration program for restoration of anadromous fish, primarily salmon and steelhead, of the Klamath River Basin. It established the Klamath River Basin Fisheries Task Force and the Klamath Fishery Management Council. The Klamath River Basin Fisheries Task Force (Task Force) guides the Restoration Program. Task Force members include representatives from the commercial fishing industry, sportfishing community, the Yurok, Hoopa and Karuk tribes, four Northern California counties, California Department of Fish and Game, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, the National Marine Fisheries Service, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the US Department of the Interior. The Klamath Fishery Management Council (KFMC) has developed a long-term plan for the management of in-river and ocean harvest of Klamath anadromous fish, and makes recommendations to agencies that regulate the harvest of Klamath fish. KFMC members include representatives from commercial and recreational ocean fisheries, the in-river sportfishing community, tribal fisheries, and agencies (the California Department of Fish and Game, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, National Marine Fisheries Service, and US Department of the Interior).

The Klamath River drains Southern Oregon and Northern California. Iron Gate Dam just across the California state line defines the upper extent of the migration of migration of anadromous fish. The entire study involved the selection of eight sites for intensive 3-dimensional mapping both in and out of the channel. This website documents the mapping effort at the first site just down stream of Iron Gate Dam known as R-Ranch.
